Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas law creates vehicle protection grants run by the Criminal Justice Division. State and local agencies authorized to employ peace officers can apply. Grants help buy and install bullet-resistant windshields, side windows, rear windows, and door panels on vehicles used for official duties. The division must set eligibility rules, application steps, grant amount guidelines, review procedures, and checks on grant use and compliance. Recipients must submit proof of purchase and installation as soon as practicable after spending the money. The division can use any available money, but the law sets no funding total or grant amount.
