Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas raises penalties for qualifying sex offender registration violations and attempts to the next higher offense category. This applies when the person has a prior conviction for a registration violation or an attempted violation. It also applies when the person fraudulently uses identifying information during the violation or attempt, violating Penal Code Section 32.51. The changes apply only to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025. If any element of the offense occurred before that date, the earlier law still applies.
