A city's extraterritorial jurisdiction is an area outside city limits where the city has some authority. The law removes the city's written-consent requirement when state petition or election procedures require land to be released. This change applies to petitions filed or elections requested on or after September 1, 2025. It does not set a direct household payment or cost change.
