Qualifying Texas county judges receive an annual state pay supplement equal to 18% of a district judge’s annual salary. The comparison uses a district judge with comparable years of service and pay set by the General Appropriations Act. County judges qualify when at least 18% of their duties are judicial or 18% of their work hours involve judicial duties. The law applies to pay periods beginning on or after September 1, 2025. Pay periods beginning before that date remain under the previous law.
