Texas public school students entering ninth grade in 2026–2027 or later must earn at least one-half credit in personal finance. This counts toward three required social studies credits, which also include at least one-half credit in government. Students entering higher grades in 2026–2027 keep the earlier graduation rules. An Advanced Placement course can satisfy the finance requirement if the State Board of Education approves its similar, rigorous content. The Texas Education Agency must list free, open-source, publicly available course materials that districts can use. It must also seek, accept, and spend available federal or private grants and gifts for the course; no amount is specified.
