Sam Houston State University's Polytechnic College joins eligible institutions for two Texas grant programs. Texas Educational Opportunity Grant eligibility starts with awards for fall 2026; earlier awards follow prior law. Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) Program eligibility starts with awards for fall 2025. Students seeking grants must meet each program's existing student eligibility requirements. The law sets no grant amounts and also adds the college to state definitions of lower-division institutions.
Beginning September 1, 2025, Polytechnic College is a Sam Houston State University division administered by its president. The Texas State University System's board of regents directs and controls the college. The college must offer short, intensive career courses designed to lead to certificates defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Former age and school-qualification limits, along with the list of named vocational fields, no longer apply. The college must be funded like a public state college, but the law provides no separate appropriation or dollar amount.
Beginning September 1, 2025, Polytechnic College's tuition rule based on actual teaching costs ends, including its $500 nine-month school-year cap. The law sets no replacement tuition amount or cap. It also removes the board's specific authority to award need-based scholarships to students who could benefit from college training. Those scholarships could vary by individual need. The law gives no scholarship amounts, confirms no past awards, and creates no replacement scholarship program.
