Beginning September 1, 2026, Texas property-tax appeal arbitrators have more course options when renewing agreements with the comptroller. Renewal requires at least eight hours of continuing education in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution during the prior two years. Courses qualify through universities, colleges, real estate trade associations, or legal associations, or through approval for continuing legal education. Arbitrators must also file renewal applications as the comptroller directs and continue meeting existing eligibility requirements. Renewal also requires completing revised property-tax law training. For registered arbitrators, when the comptroller determines a later revision is substantial, completion is required within 120 days after the revised program becomes available.
