Residents get advance notice of bus terminals

Beginning September 1, 2025, bus service owners or operators must publish notice at least 90 calendar days before opening new Texas terminals. This covers for-profit services running scheduled intercity trips on buses with at least 35 seats. A terminal is a site on the service’s premises where tickets are sold. Notice must appear in a newspaper of general circulation in the terminal’s town or nearest to the terminal. If the nearest elementary or middle school offers a state-required bilingual program, an additional language notice is required. That notice must appear at least once in a general-circulation publication in the town or county, in the program’s language. The extra notice is not required if no qualifying publication exists or its publisher refuses. Temporary terminals responding to unforeseen emergencies, including natural disasters or road closures, are exempt. Public transit operated by or for local government is not covered.
