Private transfer fee lawsuits must stay local

Beginning September 1, 2025, covered private transfer fee lawsuits must be filed in the county where the property is located. This applies only to lawsuits under Subchapter G, Chapter 5, of the Texas Property Code, overriding conflicting court-location rules. Lawsuits brought by the Texas attorney general are exempt. Cases filed before September 1, 2025, remain governed by the earlier law.
