Public directory helps Texans request government records

The Texas attorney general must create and maintain a public database on the office’s website. It lists the mailing and email addresses government bodies designate to receive written requests for public records. Each government body must report its current addresses to the attorney general by October 1 every year. The law sets an immediate effective date with a two-thirds vote of all elected members of each legislative house. Otherwise, the effective date is September 1, 2025.
