$6,500 pay grants for eligible Texas officers

Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas law creates a grant program funded only by money specifically set aside for it. Each grant provides $6,500 to an employing law enforcement agency solely to increase one eligible officer's pay. Each officer is limited to one award. Officers must work full time and hold a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement master proficiency certificate issued September 1, 2025, or later. They must also meet any extra eligibility rules set by the Texas Criminal Justice Division. The agency can apply for the officer, or the officer can apply with the agency's consent. When the program is established, the division must set procedures to process and review applications and monitor grant use.
