Texas districts gain geothermal water project powers

Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas districts gain new authority over systems that carry geothermal water. Public improvement and municipal management districts can build, acquire, improve, relocate, operate, and maintain these facilities within district projects or services. Water control and improvement districts can use these systems to conserve natural resources. Municipal utility districts can use them to preserve natural resources. These changes provide no specific funding or direct household payment and do not guarantee a project.
