Beginning September 1, 2025, covered Texas charter campuses and programs get the same liability protections as school districts. Covered charters are those under Texas Education Code Sections 12.052, 12.0521(a)(1), or 12.053. Their employees and volunteers get protections matching district staff and volunteers; governing members get protections matching school district trustees. Eligible adult education entities chartered under Chapter 12, Subchapter G get matching protections, including for staff, volunteers, and governing members. Adult education protections cover matters tied to running the chartered program. These protections reduce legal risk for covered groups but can limit claims brought against them.
