Businesses keep more retail late fees

Beginning January 1, 2026, covered businesses no longer send part of certain retail charge agreement late fees to the Texas comptroller. The law does not set new customer fee amounts or require businesses to lower fees. Tax liabilities that arose before that date remain due under the old law. The old tax collection rules and civil and criminal enforcement still apply to those liabilities.
