Building owners get alternative occupancy paperwork

Texas municipalities must give building owners a document confirming issuance of the original certificate of occupancy when owners request it. The municipality must have a record of issuing that original certificate. Municipalities cannot require owners with the verification document to obtain or display the original certificate. They must allow owners to display the verification document instead. The law takes effect immediately with approval from two-thirds of all elected members in each legislative chamber; otherwise, September 1, 2025.
