Texas’s Joint Admission Medical Program provides mentoring and academic help for qualified, economically disadvantaged students pursuing medical education. The council must also tell students about available counseling and relief services. It must seek scholarship funding equal to at least 30% of the amount appropriated for the program. Graduate medical scholarships take priority, without hindering other program functions; no individual award or added appropriation is guaranteed. The law took effect immediately with approval by two-thirds of each legislative chamber; otherwise, its effective date was September 1, 2025.
The Joint Admission Medical Program Council must maintain a secure, mobile-accessible portal for participating students’ complaints and suggestions. Students can submit anonymously or by name, with encryption and other privacy safeguards protecting anonymous submissions. The council must review and track submissions, promote the portal, and report feedback to students and legislative committees. Updates must protect student privacy, and submissions can be shared with other authorized groups only as allowed by law. The law took effect immediately with approval by two-thirds of each legislative chamber; otherwise, its effective date was September 1, 2025.
