Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas law continues a care model for pregnant Medicaid members with opioid use disorder. It supports care during pregnancy and after childbirth, and care for their children after birth. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission must implement it when lawmakers specifically fund it, to the extent money is available. Without that funding, the commission may use other available money but is not required to implement the model. Lawmakers may provide money from the opioid abatement account; the law sets no funding amount. If federal approval is needed, the responsible agency must request it and may delay implementation until approval arrives. The law's care-model provision expires September 1, 2029.
