Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas's environmental agency can issue a general aquaculture permit covering oyster-structure cleaning waste. The permit must allow state-permitted cultivated oyster growers to discharge that waste into state waters. Growers must clean at their approved operating site using water from that site, without adding soap, chemicals, or otherwise changing it beforehand. They must also follow all other permit conditions. The environmental agency must consult the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department when setting those additional conditions.
