Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, Texas public high school government classes must include civics lessons. The State Board of Education must add this content to the required curriculum. Lessons cover the roles of statewide elected officials, county officials, city council members, and other local officials. Students also learn Texas voting processes and election laws, plus who qualifies to run for elected office. Required topics also include Robert’s Rules of Order and the elected officials who represent students at each government level.
