Texas expands hospital list and requires superintendents

Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas adds three facilities to its state hospital system: Wichita Falls State Hospital, Panhandle State Hospital, and Lubbock Psychiatric Center. The updated list also names El Paso Psychiatric Center and Vernon North Texas State Hospital. The executive commissioner must issue a rule requiring every state hospital to employ a superintendent. The law does not specify new patient benefits, service changes, or changes in patient costs.
