Texas classrooms must display the Ten Commandments

Starting September 1, 2025, Texas public elementary and secondary schools must display the Ten Commandments in every classroom. The rule applies beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, with no school exemptions. Each display must be a durable poster or framed copy, placed where it is easily seen. It must contain only the law’s exact text and measure at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall. The text must be readable from anywhere in the classroom by someone with average vision. Schools missing required displays must accept and display qualifying private donations; they may, but need not, buy displays with district money.

Texas pays schools’ display-related legal costs

Starting September 1, 2025, the Texas Attorney General must defend public schools against claims arising from compliance with this law. Texas pays related expenses, legal costs, judgments, and settlements. The Attorney General may settle these claims.
