Insurance protections for people whose spouse died

Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas insurers cannot deny continued coverage or limit coverage because your spouse died. They must charge you the rate that applies to you as a married person. These protections cover policies delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after that date. Earlier policies remain under prior law until renewal. Title insurers and agents can still set reasonable requirements about heirs, probate, or similar matters, applied equally to non-widowed people.
