School tax limit relief for qualifying homeowners

For tax years starting January 1, 2026, or later, Texas changes school property tax limits for qualifying homeowners. This applies when a home first qualifies for the senior or disability homestead exemption after a tax year starts. The special calculation applies only the next year, and the home must remain eligible for that exemption. That year's limit is the lower of two amounts: the usual calculated limit or the school tax calculated without the limit.
