Public employees and families gain privacy

For requests received on or after September 1, 2025, Texas expands privacy protections for current and former Attorney General and public defender employees. Protected details include home addresses, home phone numbers, emergency contacts, Social Security numbers, and information revealing whether they have family members. Attorney General employees’ minor children, adult children, spouses, and surviving spouses also gain protection. These employees and covered relatives can also keep home addresses private in property appraisal records. Information in covered privacy forms, including extra details submitted with them, is confidential. Government offices can redact information they must withhold under these rules without requesting an Attorney General decision.
