Pay and injury leave for Texas investigators

Beginning September 1, 2025, investigator peace officers in the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s inspector general office receive Schedule C pay. The state auditor’s temporary Schedule C classification directive expires September 1, 2027. Commissioned officers also count as state employees under compensation rules that use that definition. They gain access to paid injury leave for qualifying injuries occurring on or after September 1, 2025. The law does not specify salary amounts, leave duration, or injury-leave payments.
