More anesthesia coverage for children's dental care

The law applies to covered Texas health plans delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026. Plans that cover general anesthesia cannot exclude medically necessary general anesthesia for dental services for covered children under 13. A documented physical, mental, or medical reason must prevent the child from having the dental service without general anesthesia. A qualified provider must perform the anesthesia. The plans covered include small-employer plans, specified public-employee plans, regional health programs, and self-funded plans sponsored by professional employer organizations. The law does not require coverage of the dental care or procedure itself.
