These rights cover victims of criminally injurious conduct occurring on or after September 1, 2025. For victims who request notice, prosecutors must give court dates at least five business days ahead, or as soon as reasonably practical; they must also report delay requests when filed and schedule changes as soon as possible. Prosecutors must, as far as reasonably practical, tell victims, their guardians, or close relatives of deceased victims about plea bargains and their terms. Before accepting guilty or no-contest pleas, judges must ask whether prosecutors gave that notice and discussed the case outcome with them. Victims, their guardians, and close relatives of deceased victims can assert crime-victim rights aloud or in writing, themselves or through a lawyer.
This requirement covers victims of criminally injurious conduct occurring on or after September 1, 2025. Providers already required to offer a sexual assault program advocate during a forensic medical exam must document that offer. Records must show whether the offer was made and whether an advocate was available. If no offer was made, providers must record why.
