Virgin Islands students get mental health lessons
U.S. Virgin Islands schools must include age-appropriate mental health lessons from kindergarten through grade 12. Lessons must cover early help, prevention, reducing stigma and discrimination, and well-being of the whole person. They must teach care focused on each person's needs, ethical practices, and helping people make choices about their care. Activities must build mental wellness, social connections, and supportive relationships. They must foster resilience, problem-solving, coping skills, self-esteem, and positive school and home environments. The curriculum must include the mental health parts of the National Health Education Standards. This section sets no funding amount, start date, or phase-in schedule.
