Landowners face added irrigation repair charges

Beginning July 1, 2026, Wyoming irrigation, watershed improvement, and water conservancy districts can raise money for major repairs to aging irrigation systems. Irrigation and watershed improvement districts can include this funding in annual assessments, so affected landowners may pay more. Water conservancy districts can charge up to one additional mill for these repairs. Existing base limits remain: 0.5 mill before water delivery and 1 mill after delivery, subject to existing exceptions. Repair money must stay in a separate account, used only for major maintenance and pooled until enough is available for projects. Districts can invest it with the state treasurer in local government investment pools, under the treasurer’s rules. These charges are separate from the county’s general mill levy but remain payable; late assessments carry interest and penalties.
