Wyoming creates new homeland security department

Beginning July 1, 2026, Wyoming’s homeland security office becomes the Wyoming Department of Homeland Security. The department takes over the office’s duties, powers, property, equipment, and positions provided or granted during the 2026 budget session. It receives unspent funds not already committed from that session, plus other such funds the office can legally keep. The law gives no dollar amount for the transfer. The department assumes contracts and other obligations where legally allowed; the Governor assumes those the department cannot legally take over.
