“Chronic disease” defined; general definitions and principles of construction.

Sec. 5401. (1) As used in this part, "chronic disease" includes an impairment or deviation from normal having 1 or more of the following characteristics: (a) It is permanent. (b) It leaves residual disability. (c) It is caused by nonreversible pathological alterations. (d) It requires special training of the patient for rehabilitation. (e) It may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care. (2) In addition, article 1 contains general definitions and principles of construction applicable to all articles in this code and part 51 contains definitions applicable to this part.
