In 2016, the Legislature created the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) as a stand-alone agency to replace the functions of the Department of Children and Family Services inside the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). That statute, however, did not fully separate MDCPS from MDHS.
