Fraudulent claims upon the government

14 V.I.C. § 843

(a) Whoever knowingly or willfully(1) makes or presents any false, fictitious or fraudulent claim upon or against the Government of the Virgin Islands or any officer, department, board, commission, or other agency thereof; or(2) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact; or(3) makes or uses any false bill, receipt, voucher, roll, account, claim, certificate, affidavit or deposition, knowing the same to contain any fraudulent or fictitious statement or entry; or(4) makes any materially false or fraudulent statement, or representations; or(5) submits or invites reliance on any forged, altered or fictitious writing, document, sample, specimen, map, boundary, mark or other object in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the Virgin Islands, or within the jurisdiction of any officer, department, board, commission, or other agency of the Government shall be fined not more than $2,500 or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

(1) makes or presents any false, fictitious or fraudulent claim upon or against the Government of the Virgin Islands or any officer, department, board, commission, or other agency thereof; or

(2) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact; or

(3) makes or uses any false bill, receipt, voucher, roll, account, claim, certificate, affidavit or deposition, knowing the same to contain any fraudulent or fictitious statement or entry; or

(4) makes any materially false or fraudulent statement, or representations; or

(5) submits or invites reliance on any forged, altered or fictitious writing, document, sample, specimen, map, boundary, mark or other object in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the Virgin Islands, or within the jurisdiction of any officer, department, board, commission, or other agency of the Government shall be fined not more than $2,500 or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

(b) For purposes of this section, “writings” includes filings submitted in an electronic format or any other format prescribed by the governmental body to which the writing is submitted.
