Did you know2024
Arcosa's rotary-kiln expanded shale and clay aggregate plants produce lightweight aggregate (LWA) sold primarily to the construction industry for structural lightweight concrete. But the same ceramic lightweight aggregate is sold in large volumes to the indoor agriculture sector as a hydroponic growing medium: expanded clay pebbles are the preferred substrate in commercial cannabis cultivation, vertical farming, and greenhouse hydroponics. The construction-materials quarry company is therefore a tier-1 supplier to both the infrastructure concrete supply chain and the controlled-environment agriculture supply chain, two sectors rarely analyzed together.
Arcosa Inc ↗Origin2023
Arcosa Specialty Materials traces its origin to Trinity Industries, a Dallas-based conglomerate that assembled construction materials businesses alongside railcar manufacturing. Trinity spun off Arcosa as an independent NYSE-listed company in 2018, concentrating its natural gypsum quarries in Oklahoma (Alva, Watonga, Diamond Gypsum) and expanded shale/clay aggregate plants. Oklahoma's Permian-basin gypsum deposits make it the US's second-largest natural gypsum producing state after New Mexico.
