BNBM's parent CNBM (China National Building Material Group) also controls China Composites Group — China's leading glass fiber and carbon fiber producer, a key supplier for wind turbine blades, aerospace panels, and EV battery structural cases. The same Chinese state enterprise that dominates gypsum wallboard (critical for construction) simultaneously controls a major share of the advanced fiber composites supply chain (critical for clean energy and aerospace). Supply chain analysts tracking Chinese building materials and those tracking Chinese wind/EV supply chains are in effect monitoring the same SOE parent without realizing the connection.
CNBM Group ↗Origin2023
BNBM (Beijing New Building Material) was established in 1979 as part of China's post-Mao construction modernization drive, initially as a state research and manufacturing entity for building technology. It was incorporated into CNBM (China National Building Material Group) as China systematically consolidated its building materials SOEs in the 1990s-2000s. BNBM's rapid growth tracked China's urbanization surge: China went from producing negligible gypsum board in 1990 to becoming the world's largest producer and consumer by 2010.
