The result was deliberate: by 2020, BOE had more Gen 10.5 (massive glass substrate) LCD capacity than all non-Chinese panel makers combined. The subsidized pricing was sufficient to drive LG Display out of its Guangzhou Gen 8.5 LCD fab and push AUO and Innolux to retreat from mainstream laptop LCD into OLED and specialty segments where BOE's cost advantage is less decisive. Wuhan entered lockdown on January 23, 2020 (the day before Chinese New Year) and did not lift the lockdown until April 8, 2020 — a 76-day shutdown of all non-essential movement. BOE's B10 fab employees were unable to reach work; panel production was reduced and delayed. The timing coincided with a massive surge in global display demand as remote work drove notebook PC and monitor shipments to record levels. Wuhan is the world's second-largest concentration of display manufacturing outside Taiwan (alongside BOE's B10/B10+, Tianma's Wuhan LTPS fab).
