  • Chokepoint

Citrosuco's real moat isn't groves — it's ships and tanks. It runs its own fleet of purpose-built refrigerated bulk-FCOJ tanker vessels plus a global terminal network: its Port of Wilmington facility is North America's largest bulk-juice storage (10M+ gallons), with sister terminals in Ghent (Belgium), Australia and Japan. Frozen concentrated orange juice can only cross oceans in specialized chilled tank vessels into purpose-built tank farms — physical infrastructure that only a couple of firms own — so the OJ supply chain has a logistics chokepoint layered on top of its growing-region chokepoint. [verify: Own vessel fleet + Wilmington (10M+ gal, NA largest) + Ghent/Japan/Australia terminals all confirmed independently]

Even the 'competitors' in orange juice are consolidations of former rivals: today's Citrosuco was created by the 2010 merger of Fischer's Citrosuco and Votorantim's Citrovita into a single joint venture — a deal the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation into before clearing in 2011 — forming the world's largest OJ company controlling ~40% of Brazil's OJ exports and ~25% of global orange-juice consumption. The merger collapsed two of Brazil's big juice houses into one. [verify: merger+EC clearance+world-largest+25% global confirmed]
