Dangote Cement's limestone quarries produce agricultural lime as a byproduct of cement-grade extraction — agricultural lime is the primary soil pH corrective in sub-Saharan Africa, where acidic laterite soils constrain crop yields. The same quarry belt feeding the Obajana cement kiln also supplies the liming inputs that underpin food security across Nigeria's corn and sorghum belt. Parent group Dangote also operates Africa's largest urea fertilizer plant (3 Mta at Lekki), meaning Aliko Dangote's conglomerate controls two critical agricultural input supply chains (lime + urea) that most analysts track separately from his headline cement business.

Dangote Cement grew from a single import terminal in Lagos in the early 2000s into Africa's largest cement producer by the 2010s, driven by Aliko Dangote's strategy of backward integration: instead of importing clinker, he built fully integrated quarry-to-kiln operations in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Zambia. The Obajana plant in Kogi State (16.25 Mta) is now the largest single cement plant on the continent.
