DOWA METALTECH Co., Ltd.
Japanese specialty copper alloy maker (subsidiary of DOWA Holdings, TSE: 5714, HQ Minato-ku, Tokyo); focused exclusively on high-performance copper and copper alloy strip for electronics and automotive connectors. DOWA METALTECH has won multiple Japan Institute of Copper awards for Cu-Ni-Co-Si alloy innovations for micro-connector applications and for advanced plating systems (SilC™ silver-carbon plating for low-contact-force connectors; STAR tin-plating for EV/PHV terminals). Products are used in micro-connector springs, automotive wire harness terminals, and precision relay contacts. DOWA also operates a copper smelter in Akita (Kosaka Smelter, via DOWA Mining) and a refinery at Akita — vertically integrated from copper cathode to precision alloy strip. Annual copper alloy strip capacity estimated at 80,000–100,000 MT.

DOWA Holdings' two major divisions — DOWA METALTECH (copper alloy strip for connectors) and DOWA Environmental Management (e-waste recycling) — form a complete copper lifecycle loop within one company. DOWA METALTECH's SilC™ silver-carbon plated connector strips are manufactured specifically for low-contact-force connectors in automotive infotainment systems and smartphone micro-connectors. When the vehicle or phone is retired at end-of-life, the precious metals (silver, gold) in those connectors are recovered by DOWA Holdings' e-scrap recycling operations — the same Akita smelter complex that processes incoming e-waste from DOWA's urban mining collection network. DOWA is simultaneously at the beginning of the connector supply chain (making the specialized copper alloy strip) and at the end (recovering precious metals from retired connectors). The EV whose silver-plated connectors came from DOWA METALTECH's Saitama alloy plant will eventually yield its connector silver back to DOWA's Akita e-scrap facility — a 140-year-old Akita copper mine company completing the connector supply chain circle.

DOWA METALTECH Co., Ltd. is the copper alloy strip subsidiary of DOWA Holdings — the same holding company that operates the Kosaka Mine and smelter in Akita Prefecture (Japan's oldest copper mining district). DOWA Holdings has operated Kosaka since 1884, and the Akita copper operations provide the integrated raw material foundation for DOWA METALTECH's alloy strip production. The circular economy structure within DOWA Holdings is unusual in the copper industry: DOWA Mining smelts copper ore and e-scrap → refined copper is supplied to DOWA METALTECH → DOWA METALTECH alloyed strip goes into automotive and electronics connectors → when those devices are retired, DOWA Holdings's Environmental division collects e-scrap → DOWA Mining extracts the copper back. DOWA is the only major copper alloy strip manufacturer that simultaneously operates an e-scrap recycling division — a genuine closed-loop within one Japanese industrial holding company.
