Following its 2019 acquisition of the Armor All, STP, and A/C Pro brands from Spectrum Brands for approximately USD 1.25 billion, Energizer is also the owner of: Armor All (the #1 US automotive interior protectant and tire care brand), STP (engine oil additives and fuel system cleaners used by millions of US car owners), and A/C Pro (the #1 US consumer DIY automotive air conditioning refrigerant recharge kit — sold at Walmart and AutoZone for ~$70 to recharge R-134a car AC systems). A battery company owns the dominant consumer-brand tools for DIY automotive AC refrigerant management. Energizer's A/C Pro division connects it to the HFC refrigerant transition: as cars transition to R-1234yf (GWP 4) from R-134a (GWP 1430), A/C Pro's existing R-134a consumer recharge product line faces regulatory and product lifecycle challenges. The same brand that sells AA batteries at checkout counters sells the refrigerant recharge kit mechanics use in customer driveways.

Energizer Holdings was spun off in 2000 from Ralston Purina — a company best known for Purina Dog Chow and other pet food products. Ralston Purina had acquired Union Carbide's Eveready Battery Company in 1986 (for approximately USD 1.4 billion), reasoning that alkaline batteries were a stable consumer products business compatible with their CPG portfolio management. Union Carbide's Eveready brand traced to National Carbon Company (1890), makers of the first commercial dry cell battery and first commercial flashlight (1899). After 14 years as a dog food company's battery division, Energizer was spun out as an independent NYSE-listed company. The Energizer bunny mascot — now one of the most recognized brand characters in advertising — was created in 1989 as a direct parody of Duracell's pink bunny commercials, intended to mock a rival's marketing campaign and instead became more famous than the original it mocked.

Energizer's Singapore plant — its largest non-US facility — is the only Energizer facility outside the United States capable of producing both alkaline and lithium batteries, with an annual capacity of approximately 2.2 billion cells. It has been operating continuously since 1946, making it one of the oldest continuously operating battery plants in Asia.
