Its heritage includes Degussa AG (Deutsche Gold- und Silber-Scheideanstalt), a Frankfurt-based precious metals and chemical company founded in 1873, and Huls AG. The Evonik rebrand occurred in 2007 when the combined entity completed its transition from coal and commodity chemistry to specialty chemicals.
