The ferrite inductors in a smartphone power conversion circuit and the NiMH battery in a camera flash unit both flow from the same Fujitsu subsidiary. But more important is the supply chain vulnerability: FDK's NiMH battery production requires lanthanum/mischmetal for the negative electrode alloy (La-rich AB5 alloy at ~30% of electrode mass). This creates direct exposure to Chinese rare earth supply chains.
