However, Turkey's NATO membership, its role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict (as a mediator and F-16 acquirer), and its increasing diplomatic autonomy suggest that Turkish boron supplies face more geopolitical risk than a generation ago. The ferroboron supply chain for EV magnets — which runs from Turkish colemanite ore through Turkish processors like Gintek to Chinese or European magnet manufacturers, then to EV motor assemblies — has multiple Turkey-dependent nodes.

The Turkish state mining company Eti Maden İşletmeleri controls mining of Turkish boron ores under a state monopoly, while private processors like Gintek purchase refined boric acid or boron compounds from Eti Maden and convert them into value-added alloy products. Turkey's boron dominance is a frequently discussed strategic resource — Turkish officials have explicitly compared their boron position to OPEC's oil position, referring to Turkey as the "Saudi Arabia of boron."
