INEOS Styrolution is the world's largest maker of styrenic plastics, and that one material family turns up in startlingly different roles. ABS is the plastic of toy building bricks (it's LEGO's material), but the very same ABS makes appliance housings, car interior trim, electronics shells, safety helmets and hardside luggage. Polystyrene and its expanded foam (EPS) are both the disposable foam cup and food tray AND the energy-absorbing foam inside a child's car seat and a bicycle helmet that protects against impact. So a single producer's styrenic resin is simultaneously a toy, a safety-critical protective foam, an appliance and food packaging — the same chemistry doing playful and life-saving jobs at once. A supply or feedstock shock at one styrenics maker therefore ripples across toys, durable goods, child safety and packaging together.
