Foxconn's group structure means the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer vertically integrates upstream into the panel supply chain through Innolux, creating a supply chain where Apple's display component supplier and Apple's device assembler are the same Foxconn conglomerate. Apple has worked to diversify away from Foxconn assembly precisely because of this concentration — but Foxconn's Innolux subsidiary continues to supply panels to Apple competitors (Samsung, Lenovo, HP), meaning the same Foxconn family that builds Apple products also supplies screens to Apple's device competitors.

Innolux Corporation was formed in 2010 through the merger of Chi Mei Optoelectronics and Innolux Display Corp — both TFT-LCD ventures that had participated in the global LCD price-fixing cartel investigated by US and EU antitrust authorities in the late 2000s (resulting in over $400 million in combined fines). The merged entity came under the control of Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry), the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer, when Foxconn acquired a controlling stake. Foxconn CEO Terry Gou built Innolux as a vertically integrated display supplier for Foxconn's assembly operations that serve Apple, Sony, and other major OEMs.
