  • Origin2023

Irritec was founded in 1974 in Capo d'Orlando, Sicily -- in the heart of Mediterranean agriculture -- as Italy began adopting Israeli drip irrigation technology for its tomato, citrus, and olive growing regions. The company was founded by family entrepreneur Giovanni Abbate who recognized that European agriculture would follow the Israeli model of converting flood irrigation to drip systems for water efficiency. Starting from Sicily, Irritec built a manufacturing base for drip emitters and tape serving Mediterranean crops, eventually expanding to supply 80+ countries. It remains family-owned and is one of the few European companies to have maintained independence against Israeli (Netafim, NaanDanJain) and US (Rain Bird, Toro/Hunter) consolidation of the global micro-irrigation industry.
