The process

  1. 01

    Raw material preparation

    Steel coils, polyethylene resin (HDPE/LLDPE), aluminum billets, and rubber/silicone compounds are sourced and quality-checked. Galvanizing-grade zinc (99.99% purity) is prepared for hot-dip lines.

  2. 02

    Metal forming & tube mills

    Steel strip is roll-formed into pipes and structural spans for center pivots; tubes are seam-welded and cut to length. Aluminum billets are extruded into lateral-move pipe (6" and 8" diameters). Internal coating applied for corrosion resistance.

  3. 03

    Hot-dip galvanizing

    Formed steel components are degreased, pickled in hydrochloric acid, fluxed, and immersed in molten zinc at ~450°C. Galvanizing extends structural life 25+ years outdoors and is the single most energy-intensive step in pivot manufacturing.

  4. 04

    Polyethylene pipe & drip tape extrusion

    HDPE or LLDPE resin pellets are melted and extruded through annular dies to form mainline pipe, sub-main pipe, and thin-walled drip tape (wall thickness 6–20 mil). Inline emitters are co-extruded or insert-molded during this step for integrated dripline.

    Emitter fabrication & assembly

    Pressure-compensating emitters are injection-molded in two parts: a polyethylene labyrinth housing and a silicone diaphragm insert. Emitters are ultrasonically welded or snap-fit into dripline at precise intervals. Disc filters and sand-media filter housings are molded separately.

  6. 06

    Pump & motor assembly

    Centrifugal or submersible pump bowls are cast (grey iron or stainless), machined, and assembled with impellers. Electric motors (typically 3-phase, 5–500 hp) are wound, housed, and coupled. Variable-frequency drives (VFDs) are integrated for energy control.

  7. 07

    Electronic controller & sensor integration

    Microcontroller-based irrigation controllers are PCB-assembled and firmware-loaded. Soil moisture sensors, flow meters, and pressure transducers are calibrated. For center pivots, GPS guidance modules and remote-monitoring telematics are installed.

  8. 08

    System testing, packaging & distribution

    Assembled systems undergo hydrostatic pressure testing, flow uniformity testing, and electrical safety certification (UL/CE). Center pivot spans are disassembled for shipping and re-erected at field installation.
