Jalon is publicly known as an industrial adsorbent company, but their LiX molecular sieve is the key consumable in medical oxygen concentrators — devices that separate oxygen from air and are used in home care for COPD patients and in hospital respiratory care globally. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization identified medical oxygen concentrators as critical shortage items for developing countries that lacked bottled oxygen infrastructure. India experienced acute hospital oxygen shortages in April-May 2021 (during the Delta variant wave) despite having functional concentrators — the bottleneck was partially the LiX zeolite sieve beds inside concentrators which exhaust and require replacement. Jalon is one of the few global manufacturers of LiX grade molecular sieve; their Chinese production capacity is a critical upstream input for global medical oxygen access in low-income countries. A Chinese specialty chemicals company is an invisible component of global healthcare access.
