Beijing Easpring Material Technology Co., Ltd.

HQ CN · Beijingwebsite ↗

Chinese battery cathode material company (SZSE: 300073, HQ Beijing); one of China's largest LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cathode material producers alongside Yunnan Yongkang Energy, Hunan Shenghua A&P, and others. Beijing Easpring produces LFP cathode for BYD's Blade Battery and for multiple Chinese and export battery manufacturers. LFP cathode — which eliminates cobalt (the ethically problematic DRC mineral) and reduces nickel dependence while offering superior thermal stability and cycle life — has undergone a renaissance since 2020: Tesla adopted LFP for its standard range vehicles in 2021; BYD's entire lineup uses BYD-manufactured LFP. LFP's re-emergence after a decade of being considered 'old technology' is driven by its lower cost (no cobalt), safety profile (no thermal runaway), and cycle life improvements from single-crystal manufacturing advances.

  • Did you know2024

LFP cathode from Beijing Easpring and its Chinese peers serves simultaneously: (1) electric vehicle batteries (BYD Blade Battery, Tesla standard range Model 3/Y), (2) grid-scale battery energy storage systems (utility BESS for wind/solar integration), and (3) e-bikes and electric 2-wheelers (the largest single EV category globally by units). The same Beijing-manufactured LFP cathode compound can end up in a Tesla on a California highway, a grid storage farm in Texas stabilizing wind power output, or an electric scooter in Jakarta. This triple-market position makes Chinese LFP producers — Easpring, BYD, Hunan Shenghua, Yunnan Yongkang — simultaneously embedded in automotive, energy infrastructure, and urban mobility supply chains. No Western non-Chinese cathode maker has comparable multi-market LFP supply positions; the LFP cathode market for all three applications is overwhelmingly Chinese-controlled.

  • Origin2023

Beijing Easpring (SZSE: 300073) was founded in 2000 in Beijing at a moment when LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cathode was an emerging academic chemistry, not yet commercially significant. The LFP cathode chemistry had been published by John Goodenough (UT Austin) in 1997 and was being commercialized in China before US and European companies prioritized it. Easpring was among the first wave of Chinese companies to industrialize LFP production, building capacity in the 2000s as BYD and Chinese electric bus manufacturers adopted LFP for its safety characteristics. When the global industry shifted toward high-nickel NMC in the 2015-2020 period (for energy density), Easpring invested in both LFP and NMC cathode — allowing it to serve both Chinese domestic (BYD/LFP) and international (NMC for Korean and European customers) battery makers through the chemistry transition.
