MDI grew significantly during COVID-19 when global demand for rapid antigen test membranes far exceeded Cytiva's production capacity, and test manufacturers scrambled for alternative sources. India's government recognized lateral flow membranes as a strategic supply chain component and supported MDI's capacity expansion as part of India's push to become a global diagnostics manufacturing hub.
